Lee Work Center Custody
The sheriff’s official Work Center page places the program in the old county jail at 301 N. Front Street. It serves selected nonviolent sentenced inmates. Pretrial city and county detainees are excluded, as are people serving sentences for violence or with prior violent convictions. That population is narrower than the main adult jail population. Selection for work activity does not end the sentence or the sheriff’s custody.
The official Work Center source provides a useful custody-versus-release check.

The source confirms a sentenced custodial program, not a community release or supervision office.
Movement into the Work Center is therefore a location or program change. It should never be reported as release. The same caution applies when a person is returned to the main jail for administrative, medical, disciplinary, or other reasons, unless the sheriff record says the booking ended. The key question is whether county custody ceased, not whether the person changed buildings or work assignment.
Confirm Lee Work Center Release
Lee County uses the same sheriff release-record path for the Work Center and adult jail. Start at the sheriff inmate-search wrapper, choose Recently Released, and inspect Tiger’s Released Last 72hrs category. Compare the full name with age, gender, booking date, booking number, arresting agency, charges, and photograph when one is shown. A common name or image by itself is not enough.
Use a short, ordered check:
- Look for the person in Released Last 72hrs and open the matched booking detail.
- Read the Release Date field exactly as displayed, including
N/A. - Check the active roster if no released entry appears.
- Call the sheriff to ask whether the booking ended, moved within Lee County, or transferred.
- Request the Arrest/Release Form when exact date or destination matters.
The public feed is a rolling discovery tool, not an archive. After 72 hours, absence is expected. A dated county form and court record provide a more durable trail.
Note: A Work Center name or address change does not prove sentence completion, discharge, or physical departure from county control.
Lee Work Center Release Records
Ask the Lee County Sheriff for the Arrest/Release Form tied to the booking. Give the full name, approximate booking date, booking number if known, and arresting agency. Request the actual departure date and time plus the nonexempt recorded disposition or destination. The public Work Center page does not publish a separate release form, records office, or distinct fee schedule for this program.
Work Center Contact
Lee County Inmate Work Center
Program site described at 301 N. Front Street
Official contact block also displays 510 N. Commerce Street
Tupelo, MS 38804
Lt. Herbert: 662-680-6064
The two addresses serve different descriptive roles on the official page, so call before visiting or mailing anything. For county records, the sheriff main number is 662-432-2600 and Adult Jail/Corrections is 662-432-2632. The county information page lists $5 for the first Arrest/Release Form copy and $1 for each additional copy, paid by money order unless otherwise noted, with no cash. It does not give a turnaround.
Read Lee Work Center Status
Several public labels can be confused. “Sentenced” describes the legal basis for the Work Center population. It does not mean the sentence has ended. “Nonviolent” describes an eligibility rule, not a release status. An outside work assignment does not change who has legal custody. “Released” should be reserved for the booking event recorded by the sheriff or a transfer out of the county system described with its destination.
| Event | Correct description |
|---|---|
| Main jail to Work Center | Movement within Lee County custody |
| Work Center to main jail | Movement within Lee County custody |
| Sentence ends and person departs | County release, subject to any other hold |
| Transport to MDOC | Release from county booking to state custody |
| Court trip with return | Transport, not release |
The sheriff’s transport function includes court and state-penitentiary movement. That is why a roster change needs a destination check. An MDOC result soon after the county booking ends may show that state custody began.
Lee Release Transfer Checks
If the county record identifies a state commitment, search the MDOC inmate database by MDOC ID or name. Read Location, Unit, Location Change Date, sentences, and Tentative Release Date together. The tentative date is not proof of release. A community ERS location can also mean the person left a prison institution while remaining under MDOC inmate jurisdiction.
A court order can explain why Lee County was authorized to release or transfer someone, but the custodian establishes physical departure. VINE may report a custody event from a participating agency. Confirm the event with the agency named in the notice. Federal or immigration systems should be checked only when a court record, detainer, writ, or agency record points there. A blank BOP or ICE search does not turn an unresolved county record into proof of release.
The broader Lee County released-inmate search path shows how the county form, MDOC, VINE, court, and federal channels fit together.
Note: Describe the handoff as a transfer when another agency assumes custody, even though the Lee County booking has closed.
Old Lee Jail Setting
The Work Center occupies the old county-jail setting. That local history explains why its address and jail services can look like an ordinary detention-facility listing. It does not make the program a separate public release system. The current adult facility was completed in 1997, while the selected sentenced work population remained associated with the older site.
Lee County also maintains an active detention planning process. The county master-plan hub may lead to later changes in facility organization, location, or public tools. Planning documents do not establish that any move is complete. Verify the current address and procedure with the sheriff before relying on an old page, screenshot, or map entry.
For historical records, preserve both the facility label and booking number. The same person may have been held at the main jail and Work Center during one county sentence. Those location facts are useful, but the Arrest/Release Form is the better source for when the booking actually ended.
Lee Work Release Evidence
Evidence has different strength based on the question. Tiger list placement is useful for immediate discovery. The Arrest/Release Form is stronger for an exact county departure date and mechanism. A filed court order explains legal authority. An MDOC record controls state status after a transfer. VINE provides notice, but the contributing agency confirms the underlying event.
- County sentence
- A sentence served under Lee County custody rather than MDOC calculation.
- Transfer
- A move from one custodian to another, not unrestricted release.
- Discharge
- Completion of the sentence or supervision shown by the responsible agency’s record.
- Detainer
- A request or hold that can send a person to another authority after one booking ends.
When sources disagree, record the access date, identifier, exact status label, and agency. Do not flatten “sentenced,” “released,” “transferred,” “ERS,” and “discharged” into one result. Ask the record owner to resolve the difference.
Search Lee Work Records
A valid Work Center release finding begins with proof that Lee County custody ended. Program placement, outside work, or a move between county buildings is not enough. Use the recent-release feed for a fresh event, the county form for a lasting record, and the receiving agency when custody changed hands. That approach preserves the Work Center’s actual role and keeps sentence-end release separate from a custodial assignment.
